Little Projects

My granddaughter, Scarlett told me she wanted to make a purse.  This is the first project for her.  So we picked a pattern, found some material and she helped cut it out.  I like her fabric choices.

Okay, admittedly, we didn't get very far on her project.  But she has a short attention span for things like this and ran off to play.

Violet, liked the sew up a purse idea so we also picked a pattern, ironed the fabric, cut it out and sewed on
it a bit.  Then her Daddy came to pick her up and she had to go home.

The back side is in a different fabric.

Now I have to cool my jets and wait for them to come back over so that we can finish sewing these projects up.

I was thinking of making myself an eyeglass case.  The one I have is just not fun enough. Several years ago I made up several eyeglass cases as gifts for my sisters.  I had made several so that they could have their pick. When I was looking for the purse I had made to show Scarlett and found the eyeglass case!  I had forgotten all about having an extra one.  So now I have a new one for me.  I like when things work out like that.

I even lined it with a different fabric.

So nice to have something new and pretty for myself -and something I made myself.  WhooHoo! I feel like I hit the jackpot!

Magtag Happiness.

I know you have all been waiting on pins and needles (LOL!! That's just an expression we always use but so funny to use it here on a quilting blog!)  Now, back to what I was saying, I just know you have all been waiting on pins and needles to find out how I like my new dishwasher.  What? You haven't been?  Well, just pretend like you were.

Do you see how the tines in my dishwasher were rusting and then falling off?  One whole row was gone and there was no way to keep the glasses from falling over.  And not only that it was disgusting to have rust all over the clean dishes.

Besides my new dishwasher having all the tines in place, they are coated with nylon instead of plastic. So I don't have to worry about them rusting out.  I was a bit worried about the noise level.  It's at 57 decimals.  I didn't really what to pay another $150.00 dollars to lower that to 54 decimals.  The results:  It's a dream! 

It's super quiet.  Like someone whispering.  I actually turned off our fan to see if I could hear it.  And I threw my dishes in just scraping off the food - no rinsing and they were CLEAN!!! I sure am one Happy Mama!

The next day I just scrapped my plates and decided to wash them the following day. I didn't bother to shut the dishwasher all the way either.  In the morning I woke up to a dishwasher full of ants! Yikes! Believe me, I won't be doing that again.

I'm off to go to the dishes.  Happy Me!

Last Weekend was not made for Sewing. (Sigh)

So... Did you have a nice weekend?  Were you able to get some sewing in?


No sewing for me.  But I did clean my machine. That part was enjoyable.  I love getting all that lint out of there. Then I had to replace the needle. Mine is bent.  I must of searched for a new needle for over 10 min.  Hey, that's a LIFE TIME in my hot garage!  I was almost ready to call my daughter (she was a Walmart) and have her pick me up some, when I finally found them.  They were in the nice cool house, in my sewing box.  LOL!!  Don't tell me you know exactly where your's are! Then I would have to feel bad.  Hahaha!


So while you were (hopefully) sewing away,  I was traipsing around town looking for a dishwasher.  

My view is, since we need a new one I would spend just a little more and get one that actually works.  Right now I have to clean the dishes, as in actually wash those babies, and then I can put them in.  Which is really silly.  I want to scrape the food off and be done.  Right?  And I want it to be quieter than our present one.  


We ended up with a Maytag.  I sure hope it's a good one.  With nylon tines.  Ours have rusted away and we are missing a lot of them.  Hard to stand glasses up without them.  LOL!!  So hopefully, this will do the trick.  I don't even know when it's coming.  I'm not in a big hurry to get it.


So what wonderful things did you get to work on while I was shopping?

Dying shorts and Cute Cows

I have a couple things to share with you.  


My daughter and her friend have been taking their old jeans, cutting them off to be shorts and then dying them.

Okay, so maybe red wasn't the best background for these shorts.  But aren't they cute? I really don't know how they did them as I was sleeping.  They did them at 1:00 in the morning by the back porch light.  Yes, cause that how kids are.  They also left them drying right outside the door where you had to walk on them to get out the door.  Yes, cause that's how kids are.  Personally I'm just happy they are being creative.  


Now, the other thing I want to tell you is that today Chick-Fil-A is having "Cow Day".  They probably call it something else. I really don't know the name, so I made one up.  If you dress like a cow you get a free meal.  It was so much fun.  Here's part of my family. And yes I dressed up a bit - I wore head band with cow ears and horns.  (I'm not in the picture).

It was so much fun to walk in and have three cows (grandchildren) rush me and give me cow hugs.  There were many other customers dressed up too.  What a fun lunch!

In the meanwhile, my quilting books have come in and I'm still practicing drawing my feathers as I read them.

Feathers!

I just love feathers.  I think it would be wonderful to be able to quilt beautiful feathers on my quilts.  I intend to practice on Mark's Flying Geese quilt.  It's great to have a quilt that you like but aren't worried about to practice on. 

While I'm waiting for my books to come in, I'm practicing using a page of feathers from Judy Allen.  (From Quiltmaker May/June 08)  Aren't these so graceful?  Practicing drawing these are just what my tired brain needs.  Work has been hectic lately. 


Earlier this week I had my puzzle almost completed, when I realized I was missing a piece!!

Oh My!  Why oh why does this happen to me?  

I looked and looked for it.  I even thought a bad word.  I finally gave up and started dusting all my chairs.  I have chairs with lots of scrolly stuff and looking for the piece only made me realize they were dusty.  And when I finished and all hope was gone - I found it under the lazy boy in the living room.  Now how did that happen?  Oh who cares!  I FOUND IT!!

Putting the Pieces Together

While I'm waiting for my quilting books to come in I decided to work on a puzzle. Since I was off work on the 4th of July it seemed like a good day to start one. The last time we went to Vegas we bought this. (Don't even ask me why - cuz I have no idea!)  So by Wednesday night this is how much I had finished.  Not that much. Too much time in the pool I suppose.

I did go to my Sewful Sister's meeting.  We did quite a bit of gabbing and laughing.  Lois showed us how to make little coasters and provided all the supplies.  So sweet of her.  This is something that I've been wanting to do forever - okay for at least a year.  I knew they would be easy to sew.  What I didn't realize is how relaxing they are.  No real thinking is needed.  LOL!!

I've got nothing

I've got nothing to show for this week.  No quilting pictures anyway.

I go walking each day at work and it's a pretty boring walk.  This is my usual view.

Today, when I was walking I noticed this tree.

How pretty is that?  What a joy!

And I noticed these pretty flowers that have bloomed. There's always something lovely if we just look for it.

I finished up the blue border on the Flying geese quilt.

 And I would like to do big ol feathers around the largest border.  I thought I could use a bit of help.  I ordered these books from Amazon.

I saw it advertised in one of my old Quilting magazines.  I'm hoping it will contain some useful information.

So I'm kind of waiting for them to come in and then I'll finish up that quilt.

In the meanwhile, I've been wanting to start a new project.  Isn't that the way it goes?  I ought to finish up one of these that I have going, and instead I'm dreaming of new things.  

So I have three choices:

1)  Jump on the hexie band wagon.

2)  Continue working on one of my UFO's.  Like the one I started with the Stay at Home Round Robin. 

3)  Start this cute wall hanging quilt I found in Quiltmaker March/April 2010

I know if I ask Mark - he'll say finish up one of my old projects.  What do you think? Which should I chose?
