Coffee Gift

My daughter came in with a present for her Dad and me.  (How exciting I love presents! Especially ones that are unexpected and are for no special reason!)  It was Coffee from Cafe Du Monde!  Wow! Is that sweet or what? You know the famous cafe in New Orleans, the one that makes those famous beignets. Here, I found a picture of them on Cafe Du Monde's website.

She didn't go to New Orleans, she found the coffee at our local World Market.  During another life time-before I married Mark, I went Cafe Du Monde and had those beignets. They really are good and it was so much fun to go to a cafe that's been around since 1862.
Cafe Du Monde picture from igougo.com.
For some reason I only had the beignets not the coffee there at Cafe Du Monde.

However, I have had coffee with chicory in it before - just not this brand.  We put on a pot and had some. It is so good!!  I really like it. It's so much better than the other coffee and chicory I had before.

As for sewing, I've finished up all the gold triangles! Yea!!  I'll start working on the borders. Hopefully tonight and I'll tell you about the Vegas vacation later.

In the meanwhile, I'm going blog hopping and seeing what you all have been up to.

Geese and a Bear

Sorry for the poor picture quality.
I've been quilting on Mark's Flying Geese quilt.  I have one row of the gold triangle completed and have started on the next one.  So my sweet little girl - says to me, "Oh I love that quilt!  It's so...so....so ugly! All the colors don't match."  I'm thinking I better help her out with this one, so I say.."it's so...scrappy?"   "Yeah, Mom. Scrappy."    Better for her to say scrappy about her Dad's work than ugly!

I'm glad she likes it.  There's something about it, and I like it too.

We've been off having more adventures.   This time we went camping at Mammoth Lakes.
Did a little bit of hiking.  Did a little bit of fishing.   Did a little bit of being chased away from our fishing spot by a BIG Ol' BEAR!!!
Not my picture - as my camera was with the bear, this one came off of Google Images.
He had silently come up behind me and was about 10 feet away when Mark saw him and yelled "Bear!" He came into our fishing site looking for our fish.  We hadn't caught any yet - and we RAN away as the bear looked over our chairs and gear.  That was the end of our fishing for the day - we weren't going to try to fish with him around.  We circled back after he wandered off, collected our gear and hightailed it back to our trailer.  Talk about being scared!  My heart was still pounding even after we got back to our camping site!

My family has this thing about bear stories, my stepfather has the best true bear stories, and now I've got one too.

I have a couple more vacation days I have to use.  I do hope there are no bears in Vegas!

Update for FNSI

I worked a little bit on the gold triangles.  I also had to get some swimming in and cleaning and a few errands done.  You know how it goes.

I did about 8 different designs then gave Mark his choice, and he chose this scrolly looking design.  I just do it free hand, going where ever I please. Each of the triangles will be different.

I think that makes 12 down - 60 more triangles to go.

Friday Night Sew-in

Did you know it's that time again?  Friday Night Sew-in time!  That's tonight!  I love Friday Night Sew-in knowing that others are sewing with me.
I have high hopes of doing more quilting on Mark's Flying Geese Quilt.  I'm very please to say that last night I completed all the foundation quilting of the gold triangle (YEA!!!)   So that means tonight is FUN night with some free-motion quilting.  I love the meandering care-free quilting that I'll able to do.

I also found this fabric at Walmart.
It was on sale for $2.50 a yard.  I wanted something cheap to try making a blouse out of.  This fabric will do - and then if I like sewing the pattern and the way it fits on me, I won't mind spending more for better quality fabric.  Fabric that doesn't wrinkle like this stuff!  Who wants to iron? Not me!

Okay so I hope to be posting some pictures tonight of Mark quilt with more quilting on it!

Where to start?

Have you been wondering where I've been?

I'm sorry I've been missing.  I've had to go on vacation.  You know it's been so rough, but I toughed it out.  LOL!! And right after that I had go out of town to attend my niece's wedding.  It was all just the best to visit with my family!
One thing the wedding couple did was not serve cake - but little petit-fours. That certainly was different.
I liked the way they were made to look like little presents. It's always nice to do something fun.

On the sewing front:  I quilted up all the geese and now I'm doing the foundation quilting of the gold triangles. There are 74 total.  Sounds like a lot.  But we all know they will be done in no time at all.
Are you sick of seeing this quilt yet?
How's this next picture for a change?
One of the sights we saw while on vacation was this!
I'm betting you have NEVER seen a motorcycle herese.

Yeah.  That's what I thought you would say. Here's the company logo on side.
And I'm sure you want to see what else I did.  Scarlett and Violet spent some time with me.  When bedtime came, they found a pile of blankets and pillows and crawled in.  I love these little honeyies.
That's all for now. I have to get going.  When I finish up my chores I'm going catch up on my blog reading.
