Okay - Tell Me the Truth

I had a wonderful time sewing this up, but.....I just don't know....

Before I sew up more spools, please tell me what you honestly think. Do you like it?  Should I change out the tan color to something brighter? Cheerier?   When I finish all the blocks, would putting a colorful border help?
As I was looking at this I remembered that I don't like brown.  (How can someone forget they don't like a color?)  Well, I did.  So that is part of my problem.

So is it ugly?  Or is it just me?

(Don't worry about hurting my feeling - they are just color choices.)

Nicey Linda

  1. Personally Linda, I think it is too dark, maybe try something lighter or scrap the whole project. When something isn't working for me, that's what I do----and get rid of the evidence. I don't feel obligated to finish something that I just don't love. Hugs

  2. I like the color combo. I think a scrappy bright border might look nice.

  3. I have to admit I like the brown. I think it looks pretty. However, if you're wanting to play with the colors, what about some bold color to go with the brown? Just depends on what makes you smile. :) -April

  4. Umm as another person who isn't wild about brown, I'd try some other color--or colors (maybe the browns could fit in with them) The thread parts of your spools are so pretty, but the brown may just be a tad dark too. I'd make it so you like it!

  5. Oh ... I *like* the brown! At first it made me think of s'mores (I just finished downloading a camping coloring sheet with a family cooking s'mores for our Camp's facebook page). But then I saw the pinwheel!! Two of my eight tubs of stash are dedicated to browns/tans, though, so I guess I *do* like brown! :)

  6. I think I would try a lighter brown, and maybe something with just a little pattern. I love the fabrics you're using for the threads! Were you planning to make a wall hanging? Or a larger quilt?

  7. Well I won't be of any help as I like the spools as is..
Because you are using lovely thread colours...

  8. Hm....I think it may be a little too dark - but it does show off the pinwheels nicely! Love the colors on the spools!

  9. I am a brown-lover. :) I like brown.. but.. I think the spools would look great with a brighter color too. I see bright yellow spools (maybe a pin dot, as I just blogged a quilt using two diff pin dots) and white as background? Or red for the spools. Red is my FAVE color! lol But don't listen to me, though. I don't know what I'm talking about half the time. ;)

  10. Personally, I like it a lot, but then I like browns and neutrals.I tried not to focus on the individual spools, but imagine the all over effect, and to me it was good. I think you have to go with your gut feel though Linda, and if you're asking the question....well your gut says no doesn't it

  11. I love brown but for this I would maybe go a little lighter but I do think it looks good or something with a small print x

  12. I like it a lot, but, if you don't like brown, you are never going to be happy with this quilt. Perhaps you'd be happier with a lighter brown/beige colour instead.

  13. I'm not fond of brown but I think it works for the quilt you are working on. Maybe you could try a lighter brown or try something brighter for the threads.

  14. I love the fabric you are using for the "thread." It's awesome. The brown is okay, but I think I would like it better if it was either brighter or darker (like black). The brown washes it out a bit, if you ask me. Like I said, they aren't bad....I just think they could pop more. And if YOU aren't happy with it, then change it. If YOU love it, keep it!

  15. My first thought was that I liked the brown - I like it as a colour that is a good foil for lots of other colours, but I think it will also work in another lighter or brighter colour as well.... you need to go with your gut instinct because if you're not happy with it you just wont finish it!! Love the girls' bags - a lovely patient grandma!
