California Poppies

This is my sis sitting in a field of poppies. We have some very pretty hills that are just full of flowers near our town. My sis and her friend went for a little drive to enjoy them and these are her pictures. Isn't she sweet to let me post them for everyone else to enjoy too. She assured us that she did not squish any flowers by sitting on them, and she didn't step on any as she walked out in the field. California is known for it's poppies. It is our state flower.

This next one is my favorite picture. I like how there are a couple poppies amoung the other flowers. I think sis does a good job of taking pictures.

April Project #2 Done

What do you think? Will Violet like it? Neptune wanted to be in the center of things, and I didn't have the heart to ask her to move. This quilt top was so much fun to make, nice and easy. I have two more I-Spy quilts to make for two more grandchildren. My plan is to give the quilts to them at Christmas time. That should be enough time to finish them all.

This makes two projects finished for April. I have one more I said I would like to finish, and only one more week. Strike that 3 days left. Hmmm....I haven't even started it. I think I'll pass it onto May's projects.

Oh, in May I'm taking a quilting class so that I can quilt all these quilts I've been piecing.

I did it!

After a while, I just couldn't stand it. This BOM should not have taken well over a month to stitch up. Never mind I was working on all those college papers. It started to really get on my nerves. So I got busy and finished it up. Yippe!

One April project down.

Mother in law Emergency!

My daughter called with a Mother-in-law emergency. She had too many bags in the cabinet and didn't want her mother in law to see them. (Her MIL is a sweetheart and she had nothing to fear.) But being the "Best Mom Ever" - and I don't get to wear that title often - I made her a grocery bag holder. I could have told her to go to Wal-Mart, but she wanted one with penguins.

I was so lucky to get the very last of the penguin fabric at the store.

I think it turned out pretty cute!

Erik's Scrap Mystery Starts May 3, 2010

I had just finished sorting and organizing some of my scraps. Honestly they are still quite a fright - but that aside, when I finished sorting, I happened across Erik's Scrap Mystery Quilt. Oooo La La - sounds right up my alley!!! Me with lots of scraps and Erik with a plan. AND the cool part is I don't even need to know the plan yet. Which is good since I have too many things I'm thinking about right now anyway. (Those school essays are crowding up my brain.)

The Mystery starts on May 3rd. And Erik gives you some starting instructions if you want to do something now. I've only made one other mystery quilt. It turned out so nice it's hanging above my daughter and her husband's bed. This one sounds like a lot of fun too. You can click on the above icon or the one on the side bar to get to Erik's site.

Which Magazine? Tag... for the CG&GQC

Joan of Ouvrages d'une Acadienne has asked the following questions:

1. which magazines do you prefer?

The only magazine I subscribe to is Quilt. I only want one mag at at time - my poor brain couldn't handle the overload of all those good ideas! LOL!! This month's is especally good. Almost every page has another quilt to I would love to make. I like almost all of the quilt magazines. My second fav is Quilter's Newsletter.

2. have you ever made any projects from those magazines?

I haven't made the whole quilt, but only because I have too many projects going already. But I used the ideas to inspire me. I used a bird here, a flower there, and a bush in another one and then I end up with something totally different. I would love the make the picture on the front of this month's "Quilt"!

3. maybe you want to show us the project(s)?

I wish I could, I've given them away.

I like, I like!!

I really like the way this I Spy quilt is coming along. I threw it down on my office floor to snap the picture. It's a bit of a small office don't you think? Those zigs and zags add some zest without over powering the I Spy squares. This has been a lot of fun to do.

My co-worker is the one that really got me started on this. She wanted to start right away. So I put off doing my paper for that night and of course once you start it's so much fun, that the next night it's easy to sit down and sew another couple rows. My co-worker's I Spy quilt is coming along just as nicely. We are both hoping to get the rest of the rows on this weekend.

I haven't made much progress on my peace bom.

I only finished up the green stem around the butteryfly. I wrote my college paper instead - a compare and contrast between two minority groups. Just not as much fun....but at least it done.

And check this out...I've finially have Kelly's Charming Gals and Guys Button on my sidebar. Yeah Me!!!

Val's new BOM is posted!

Is this cute or what? I like the little beads she added. I'll have to do something like that too. Well, I will once I finish the 1st BOM!! Click of the side bar button for Val's page.

It may look sad that I've made so little process in the last couple days on this block - yet I'm not disappoint because I've finished a report on Women, Sports and the Media, wrote another essay on discrimination of women in our culture, read 2 chapters and took a quiz. Whew! So working on this bom - even a little bit - is a great joy to me.

And check this out - I've even worked a little bit on Violet's quilt. I've separated the light squares from the dark. Added some purple sashing to some of the blocks. This quilt is going to get cuter - I promise!

I've been making a little a bit of progress on my Peace BOM.

I have some DMC floss that I've had a long time and just picked a color for doing the word "Peace". I originally bought the floss for some counted cross stitch pictures I made when my kids were little. About 25 years ago!! Yikes that thread is old! Amazingly it still in very good condition just like new.

Yosemite

Isn't this just beautiful? This is Bridal Falls. We took several walking trails around Yosemite. There was still quite a bit of snow on the ground and of course my tennis shoes were soaked by the time we were finished. Small price to pay for such beauty. It was a blast. My hubby and daughter raced each other down the trail. I walked - thinking I would keep my shoes dry. But that didn't last too long and I soon racing down the hillside with them.

Some of the trails were paved. Here we (hubby and daughter) are walking with our dogs.

Here's a picture I snapped of the creek we were walking by.

It's time for April Projects!

Oh boy! Oh boy! Here it is time to post our April projects. I have some exciting stuff to work on this month. (Well...exciting to me. My daughter would probably roll her eyes at the word "exciting").

Okay first up is this free BOM by Val Laird. Isn't this just the prettiest little
butterfly flying around. I've already started on it, and my goal is to finish this block.

And then hopefully, I'll also be able to do Val's March BOM.

Thanks Val for such cute BOMs!!! Here's the link to Val's blog: Http://Val-laird.blogspot.com/
And for my last item, I have my granddaughter, Violet's I-Spy quilt to start. I doing this as a quilt-a-long with a co-worker. She also is doing the I-Spy quilt for her granddaughter. We each have 120 5" squares, some of which are seen here. I plan to use the purples in the center to put it all together. Thursday we start cutting.

Happy Sewing,
Linda
